The Green Bay Packers’ running back situation is certainly unsettled right now, as the rotation opened up even more in Week 2 with the addition of Kaleb Johnson to the committee. Between Johnson, MarShawn Lloyd and Chris Brooks, the team is splitting touches three ways now, as the Packers attempt to find an answer at the position post-Josh Jacobs’ placement on the commissioner exempt list.
So who is doing well or poorly with their opportunities? You decide! Below are videos of all the carries each back has taken this season. Let us know in the comments section who you think should be getting more or fewer opportunities moving forward.
MarShawn Lloyd
Lloyd is currently leading the team with 19 carries and 57 rushing yards (3.0 yards per carry), but he most recently played as many snaps as Johnson (tied for second/last among the backs) against the New York Jets. He did not get a carry after he fumbled on a drive starter, which set the Jets up for an easy field goal.
Chris Brooks
Brooks is actually leading the Packers running backs in snaps on offense this season with 59, 15 more than Lloyd and 45 more than Johnson. Despite that, he carries the ball on only 19 percent of his on-field plays, compared to 43 percent for Lloyd and 57 percent for Johnson. In short, he’s on the field a lot, but he’s still mostly a pass protector, play-action decoy or route-runner.
Kaleb Johnson
Johnson got no snaps on offense in Week 1, but ended up playing 14 (only behind Brooks’ 22) in Week 2. He got a lot of work later in the game, when it seemed like Lloyd got benched after his fumble. Johnson also had a fumble, but it was not recovered by the Jets.
