Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered an elbow dislocation during Sunday’s 37-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys and will not play in the Week 3 contest against the Seattle Seahawks.
Veteran backup Marcus Mariota will be the Commanders signal caller in the team’s next game. He played well after Daniels got hurt in the second half, completing 11-of-16 passes for 111 yards and a touchdown.
Daniels had imaging done on his elbow on Monday, but head coach Dan Quinn wouldn’t reveal any information from the results of those images.
Daniels will take the next few days to consult with specialists on Tuesday and Wednesday about what comes next, head coach Dan Quinn told reporters during his virtual Monday afternoon press conference.
That imaging information and the strategy derived from it will dictate Daniels’ rehab process and will reveal how long the quarterback will be out. There’s at least a possibility that Daniels has surgery to stabilize the left elbow joint, though no decisions have been made regarding what comes next.
Quinn also said the Commanders have not talked about bringing in a veteran quarterback to backup Mariota. Right now, seventh-round draft pick Athan Kaliakmanis is the primary backup.
