Family and loved ones are demanding justice after a 20-year-old man was killed in a head-on collision in Hialeah last month.
Speaking to NBC6, Emily Puentes said she and her boyfriend, Aby Gonzalez, were driving on West 20th Avenue on Oct. 27 when a driver slammed into them head-on.
Investigators said that the driver was 21-year-old Kevin Britorios, who was speeding in the wrong lane.
“(He had) no intention of stopping or turning from us,” Puentes said. “If it wasn’t us, it would have been the guy right behind us.”
Puentes was the passenger, and the crash broke her jaw. Her boyfriend died at the hospital the next day.
“It was one of the most horrible moments of my life,” Puentes said. “Remembering it just brings back the worst feelings, so traumatic to think back on … I have no idea how you sleep at night knowing what you did, knowing how fast you went, putting people in danger.”
Police said the speed limit in that area is 30 mph, but Britorios was driving 80 mph. According to the report, the officer attempted to follow the vehicle and saw it speeding and making lane changes, even entering an opposing lane and going into oncoming traffic to overtake other motorists.
Gonzalez was genuine, kind and always spread love, Puentes said. She and his family said they will keep fighting to get justice.
“It’s him who pushes me to fight for him, to get up out of the bed,” Puentes said. “He deserves to be locked up for what he did, not out here.”
Britorios bonded out of jail.
