A Broward Sheriff’s Office pursuit of a suspect that allegedly battered a deputy ended in a crash on Interstate 95 in Pompano Beach on Friday, according to authorities.
BSO said it started at around 11 a.m., when deputies responded to a theft at a business near the 300 block of West Hillsboro Boulevard in Deerfield Beach.
“According to investigators, while on scene the suspect battered a deputy and fled the scene in a vehicle,” BSO said.
Deputies chased the suspect until they crashed on southbound I-95 just north of Atlantic Boulevard.
Traffic cameras showed at least six law enforcement units and two rescue trucks at the scene. Aerial images from Chopper6 captured one vehicle overturned that came to a rest on its side, and a red SUV also appeared to be involved.
The suspect was taken into custody and taken to a hospital with injuries described as not life-threatening.
I-95 southbound at Atlantic Boulevard is shut down until further notice. Drivers are asked to seek alternate routes.
