A Mike Tomlin trade is a pipe dream. He will remain the Steelers head coach for as long as Rooney lets him, then Rooney will let him say he’s retiring. No way does Tomlin allow himself to be traded because the team who acquires him will expect results. Even Tomlin has to know by now he can’t deliver those results. Heck, if he’s smart he wouldn’t even expose himself to coaching again. Anywhere he goes, he will be expected to build a team from the bottom. He can’t even build a team from the middle! Even becoming a studio commentator is iffy for him because he will be expected to know something about modern football. All roads after Pittsburgh lead to Tomlin losing a cushy, high paying job without any expectations of results. Down that road lies reality, and actual retirement would probably be preferable to that.
