After three days of EDM, large crowds and high energy during the Ultra Music Festival, Miami Police on Monday announced that nine arrests were made.
According to Miami Police, the arrests made varied among controlled substances, thefts, battery and fraud.
The following includes the number of arrests made during the festival’s three days.
- Ultra day 1: four arrests
- Ultra day 2: four arrests
- Ultra day 3: one arrest
Police have not released the identities of the suspects who were arrested.
The most serious incident happened early Saturday morning near Northeast First Avenue and Second Street, when Miami Police flagged down a shirtless man in his 20s causing a disturbance. That encounter quickly escalated.
“That argument escalated, and the individual turned that aggression towards the police officer,” Chief Manny Morales said.
Police said the suspect turned a verbal confrontation into a physical one after attempts to de-escalate using a taser and pepper spray. An officer fired, striking him.
The suspect was identified as Philip Richard Carson. He was taken to the hospital, where he underwent surgery and is now in stable condition.
One officer was also hurt and treated for minor injuries. Carson has since been arrested.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.
