Man charged with aggravated battery after being tased and shot by officer in Miami

New details were released on Monday after a man in downtown Miami allegedly became aggressive with officers and was tased and shot.

Philip Carson, 28, was charged with aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer with violence and disorderly conduct, Miami-Dade Jail records showed.

According to Miami Police, an officer on Saturday was called due to a man who was acting erratically inside the YVE Hotel on Biscayne Boulevard.

An arrest report said that the officer started talking with Carson, who was shirtless and was pacing in the lobby.

Carson, the report said, was seen on surveillance video making an overt movement towards the officer, and the officer grabbed his arm, and he slapped the officer’s hand.

Another officer then arrived at the hotel and started to get Carson’s attention away from the first officer, the report said. The first officer then drew her Taser and pointed it at Carson.

The three were then seen walking outside the hotel, and the officers continued to tell Carson to leave, the report said.

At one point, the report said, Carson continued to behave erratically and told one of the officers “[expletive] won’t be good for you,” started to laugh and dropped to the ground.

When Carson got up, he took a fighting stance and moved toward one of the officers, but was tased when he turned back by the other officer who was behind him.

Cellphone video showed Carson falling to the ground after he was tased.

After being tased, Carson continued to resist, and the officer tased him again, but he got up and continued acting aggressively towards officers, the report said.

The officer who tased Carson then pulled out her gun and pointed it at him, as Carson charged at the other officer.

Video shows the officer firing her gun at Carson.

Carson, the report said, continued to charge at the other officer after he was shot and tackled her to the ground.

Multiple officers then arrived in the area while Carson continued to be aggressive, and he was eventually placed in handcuffs, the report said.

Carson was then taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition.

He was eventually taken to the Turner Guilford Correctional Center.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has taken over the investigation, which is standard whenever there is a police-involved shooting.
