
DEEP Environmental Conservation Police say they responded to reports of a capsized canoe at Lake Hayward in East Haddam Saturday night.
Officials say there were two 20-year-old men in the canoe and one of the males is now missing.
According to officials, the two males went out on the water in the area of 155 Lake Shore Drive before the canoe capsized.
They say one male was brought to shore by a nearby resident who said they heard voices calling for help and was transported to a local hospital.
The second male has not been located despite efforts from East Haddam and Middletown South Fire Departments, DEEP EnCon Police and the CSP dive team.
Colchester Fire and Emergency Medical Services also responded to provide mutual aid alongside the South District and Taftville Dive Team.
Officials say the search was suspended early Sunday morning and resumed at 9 a.m.
The investigation is still ongoing and there is no more information available at this moment.
