Comment on How Pittsburgh – And Rest Of The NFL – Hires Its Next Head Coach  by Jon Lochlin
There is a significant flaw in the earliest part of AK's process. When hiring for any position, NFL coach or otherwise, the search doesn't begin with identifying a list of candidates. The search begins by identifying the attributes that a coach is expected to fulfill because those can change from team to team. For example, a head coach for a good team like Baltimore will almost certainly have to do things differently than a coach for a bad team like the Browns. Once a coaching position's expected attributes are known then a list of candidates is developed according to who might best fulfill them. I am sure that the Steelers coaching search didn't start with a list of candidates. It started with Steelers leaders identifying what type of coach they were looking for to begin with. This might be an assumption of AK's but I thought I would add the clarifier regardless.
