Man upset over having to check luggage at MIA said he had bomb in bag: Sheriff

A Texas man who was reportedly upset over having to check his luggage before boarding his flight at Miami International Airport was arrested after he said he had a bomb in his bag, authorities said.

Eulalio Felipe Orama, 49, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of making a false report about placing a bomb, Miami-Dade jail records showed.

Orama was at the airport for an American Airlines flight from Miami to Houston when a gate agent told him that due to limited overhead space on the plane he’d have to check his bag, an arrest report said.

As Orama was asked a series of security questions, he said he had a bomb in his bag, the report said.

Another gate agent said he heard Orama say that a bomb would not fit in the bag, and the agent said Orama was visibly upset he had to check his bag, the report said.

All the passengers had to deplane and a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office K-9 had to search the area and the aircraft, the report said.

Orama, who lives in Houston, was arrested and booked into jail.
