Comment on Three Names Cited As ‘Strong Candidates’ For Steelers’ Head Coach Job by Archthel_brandt
I think Chris Shula is the right man for the job...his assistant's credentials is long and impressive, he's worked under McVay for half a dozen years and you can't discount that experience given the fact the Rams are still on the move and post-season competitive in the NFL. Then there's the football pedigree where his grandfather, Don Shula, regular season record is like 328–156–6, and his post-season record is 19-17, 2 super bowls...Don Shula was also the one that recommended Steelers take Chuck Noll as their next head coach...I mean this is the kind of thing you hope makes Chris the inevitable choice. The Steelers are waiting on the Rams, and that's a good thing. However, there's all this talk where Rooney looking for that next leader of mean bs and a lot of people are pining for the next Tomlin, and i hope to Christ they don't go that route again...Noll was furthest thing from Cowher and Tomlin that way, accomplished so much more than either of them, so I don't see the value in revisiting the trope. There are far more accomplished coaches in the NFL who have 0 podium skills and don't need to have sleep overs with their players..Walsh, Noll, Belichek etc. Weaver, Flores, McCarthy are options to co-exist or align with the Steelers of the last 2 mediocre decades. I'd like to see what a coach from the McVay tree does in this JV AFC North Division. With all the coaching changes in our own division whoever it is will have time to carve out his own situation. Nate Scheelhaase needs a few more years as an assistant, and it would be incredible to see him as OC standing along Schula, but definitely not HC. Who knows what's going to happen....I probably would feel a little more excited about the next head coach if it wasn't for Rooney continuing to extend Mike Tomlin since Jacksonville playoff game several years back. It demonstrates that Rooney doesn't have the highest standards for football per sae but maybe instead the quality of the person..which no one argues Tomlin isn't of high quality that way. I have such a low bar for Pittsburgh football though. And, no matter who is head coach, I will say i might be given over to weeping the next time I see someone on the Steelers defense actually execute a decent tackle once again. I saw Minkah make 3 perfect stops against the Ravens in our "field-goals only" win against the Ravens in 2024 season..a smattering here and there in 2025. But man we got to get back to the basics again here if we ever want to compete in the playoffs
