Man charged with murder in attack on Beverly Hills street

A man was charged with murder Wednesday in a attack on a Beverly Hills street earlier this month that left a man dead, county prosecutors told NBC4 Investigates.

Christopher Bernard Cornelius was charged with one count of murder in the assault on Wilshire Boulevard near San Vicente Boulevard. Authorities alleged that Cornelius used a deadly weapon and committed the murder while engaged in the commission of the crime of robbery.

Cornelius, 54, pleaded not guilty Wednesday. He remained in jail without bail with a court date scheduled for Feb. 26.

Cornelius was involved in a verbal dispute with another man before he allegedly struck the victim with a metal object multiple times, according to Beverly Hills police. Multiple witnesses told NBC4 Investigates and police that the suspect struck the man with an object, then ran him over in a car.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Police said the San Bernardino resident has an extensive criminal record for violent crimes.
