Alameda County begins biennial homeless count

Alameda County is taking a head count of all the people who live on the streets or in shelters Thursday.

The county is hoping to see a decrease in the number of unhoused people like they did two years ago.

The federal government requires the headcounts every two years to determine how much funding the county will receive.

At Hayward City Hall, county leaders, members of the health department and volunteers are meeting before they head out onto the streets and shelters.

NBC Bay Area’s Bob Redell has the full report in the video above.
