San Francisco leaders Thursday morning expanded the Journey Home program aimed at sending the city’s unhoused home.
In Thursday’s announcement, Mayor Daniel Lurie and Chief of Health, Homelessness and Family Services Kunal Modi pointed out that 18% of people participating in the city’s Journey Home program make it back to San Francisco.
City leaders are looking at why that’s happening and what’s not sticking and will make changes.
The program now offers 24/7 support for those who are experiencing homelessness or addiction on the city’s streets.
Additionally, there will be a single point of contact and multiple options for people to get back home, including by plane, train or bus.
City and community leaders in San Francisco will connect those looking to head back to other counties or even states with more resources to access benefits in hopes they stay home.
