All westbound lanes of Interstate 80 in Hercules were shut down Thursday morning after an officer-involved shooting involving Richmond police, according to law enforcement.
The Hercules Police Department advised motorists to avoid the area around I-80 and Highway 4 due to officers’ presence in the area. Police said there is no threat to public safety, but traffic on the freeway and nearby streets is heavily congested.
Motorists are urged to use alternate routes. There was no immediate estimate for when the affected lanes will reopen.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
