White Sox trade Luis Robert Jr. to Mets as youth movement continues

The Chicago White Sox have traded outfielder Luis Robert Jr. to the New York Mets, the team announced late Tuesday night.

In exchange, the White Sox acquired infielder Luisangel Acuna and pitcher Truman Pauley from the Mets.

Robert has spent his entire MLB career with the White Sox, finishing second in Rookie of the Year voting in 2020 and making his first All-Star Game in the 2023 season with Chicago.

In those six seasons Robert has hit 102 home runs, driven in 298 RBI’s and stolen 102 bases, with a slash line of .259/.313/.455.

During the 2025 season, Robert appeared in 110 games for the White Sox, with 14 home runs and 53 RBI’s in 431 total plate appearances.

He will join a Mets team that just added shortstop Bo Bichette on a three-year contract and acquired Marcus Semien in a trade with the Texas Rangers in late November. The Mets have also acquired Jorge Polanco and Devin Williams during a busy offseason.

Meanwhile the White Sox will move forward with their ongoing youth movement, centered around players like Colson Montgomery, Japanese star Munetaka Murakami, and catchers Kyle Teel and Edgar Quero.

The White Sox also own the top pick in the 2026 MLB Draft, which will be held in July.

Acuna, the younger brother of Atlanta Braves star Ronald Acuna Jr., made his MLB debut with the Mets in the 2024 season and appeared in 95 games last season. He had seven doubles and eight RBI’s in 193 plate appearances, batting .234 on the season.

Pauley was a 12th round pick of the Mets in the 2025 MLB draft, and appeared in three games for their Single-A affiliate in St. Lucie, giving up one earned run and issuing four walks in 4.1 innings.
