The Los Angeles Dodgers have won each of the last two World Series and are looking to become the first team to three-peat as champions since the New York Yankees did it in 1998, 1999, and 2000.
Over the last few years, the Dodgers have become the most hated team in baseball. They have consistently found ways to sign star-caliber players to contracts in free agency. Such was the case once again this offseason.
Despite a slow start to the MLB offseason, Los Angeles was able to come to terms on a four-year, $240 million contract with superstar free agent outfielder Kyle Tucker.
Tucker will join other stars like Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman on the Dodgers. That lineup alone is enough to give an opposing team nightmares.
With that being said, Betts has made the news recently. He spoke out with a major update about his MLB future and even offered the date he’s likely to retire.
On “What Drives You with John Cena,” Betts shared that he is currently planning to retire following the 2032 season once his contract ends with Los Angeles.
“I’ll be 40, my little girl will be 14, my son will be 10,” Betts said. “My parents were always there and I want do that same thing for my kids.”
This Is Great News for the Los Angeles Dodgers
Even though he is now 33 years old, Betts has continued to put up great numbers for the Dodgers. They’ll be happy to hear that he’s planning to play for another six years.
During the 2025 MLB season in Los Angeles, Betts played in 150 games. He hit 20 home runs to go along with 82 RBI and a slash line of .258/.326/.406.
Betts may not have played at an MVP level last season, but his presence was crucial for the Dodgers’ run in the postseason. His defense is still elite at the shortstop position and he has produced many clutch moments throughout his MLB career.
With the core four of Betts, Ohtani, Freeman, and Tucker, Los Angeles has a very good chance to win its third straight championship this season.
What Is the Dodgers’ Projected Lineup for 2026?
On paper, there is no team who should have a better lineup this coming season than the Dodgers. All throughout the lineup, Los Angeles is stacked.
FanGraphs has made an early projection for what the Dodgers’ lineup could look like in 2026.
1. Shohei Ohtani, DH
2. Mookie Betts, SS
3. Freddie Freeman, 1B
4. Kyle Tucker, RF
5. Will Smith, C
6. Max Muncy, 3B
7. Teoscar Hernandez, LF
8. Tommy Edman, 2B
9. Andy Pages, CF
Needless to say, that group will be difficult for opposing pitchers to face. Even after getting through the top four finishing with Tucker, there are a lot of dangerous bats.
As for Los Angeles’ starting pitching rotation, there is a ton of talent there as well.
Right now, the Dodgers are projected to have a rotation of Yashinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, Ohtani, and Emmet Sheehan. Roki Sasaki could fit into the mix as well potentially.
Dave Roberts once again has the best roster in baseball. Whether or not the talent will live up to the hype or not remains to be seen. However, Los Angeles should be feeling very good about its World Series chances.
