WVU Football Staff Member Visits 3-Star WPIAL 2027 LB

WVU Football cornerbacks coach Rod West recently visited linebacker recruit Minikon Johnson at Bishop Canevin in Pittsburgh. Johnson posted a picture with West in a recent X post.

Johnson is listed at 6-foot-1.5 and 200 pounds. He plays linebacker for Bishop Canevin in a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pa., and is in the class of 2027.

Johnson is listed as a three-star recruit and is ranked as the 62nd best linebacker in the class of 2027 by 247Sports.

On June 24, 2025, Johnson committed to West Virginia.  Five months later on Nov. 13, Johnson announced on X that he decommitted from WVU.  He mentioned in his post that West Virginia is still an option for him.

“West Virginia will always have a special place in my heart and will remain one of my top schools.  With that said, my recruitment is now officially open,” Johnson said on X.

Along with WVU, Johnson has offers from Penn State, Maryland, SMU, and Akron.  On the same day Rod West visited Johnson at Bishop Canevin, Penn State assistant coaches Terry Smith and Tyson Veidt paid a visit to Johnson as well.
