According to a report from Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich could be exiting the race for Borussia Dortmund center-back Nico Schlotterbeck.
Dayot Upamecano is reportedly on the verge of inking a new deal and the rest of the existing core group of defenders is likely not going anywhere for a while. The only outlier is Kim Min-jae, who could reassess his status at the end of the season.
In the end, though, even a sale of Min-jae might not guarantee that Bayern Munich gets involved with Schlotterbeck:
With Dayot Upamecano, who will soon sign a new deal, Jonathan Tah, Kim Min-jae, Josip Stanišić and Hiroki Itō, Bayern are well covered in the centre-back position for next season. Therefore, Nico Schlotterbeck is not being actively pursued at the moment. That could change if Kim Min-jae goes to the club’s bosses and asks to leave. However, that’s not the case at the moment.
Kim is currently not unhappy despite his substitute role so far this season. He wants to fight for his spot and then reassess the situation at the end of the season. Marc Guéhi is also still on the list if he’s available on a free in the summer.
The Borussia Dortmund defender has been rumored to be on the radar of FC Barcelona, but BVB is expected to make a strong push to retain him. If Bayern Munich truly wants Schlotterbeck, it would have to shed Kim and pass on a signing of Guéhi. Even then, the club would have to work things out within the budget and roster plan to make deal worth it.
Schlotterbeck will be a free agent in 2027. At that point, Bayern Munich might have enough time to develop a plan, but it seems unlikely that the Germany international will last that long if he is truly intent on leaving Borussia Dortmund.
