Former Bayern Munich assistant coach Dino Toppmöller was relieved of his duties as head coach at Eintracht Frankfurt.
Eintracht Frankfurt released a statement on social media:
Eintracht Frankfurt and head coach Dino Toppmöller are ending their collaboration with immediate effect.
The decision is the result of a comprehensive analysis of the past weeks. Thank you for your commitment and all the best for your future path, Dino!
Toppmöller was thankful for his time at the club.
“I would have loved to continue working with this team and continue to face the challenges that lie ahead. But I accept the decision. I went to Eintracht every day with great passion and joy, and regardless of the current unsatisfactory situation, which undoubtedly exists, I am proud of what we have achieved together over the past two and a half years,” said Toppmöller. “It’s a shame that we won’t be continuing together. Thank you to everyone who believed in me, who gave me this opportunity and who placed their trust in me for so long. Thank you to all the players, the entire coaching and management team, the board and all the club staff. It has been an honor. I wish Eintracht calmer and, above all, more successful times.”
Club executive Markus Krösche was appreciative of the work Toppmöller did, but acknowledged that it was time to move on.
“Dino Toppmöller has always identified fully with Eintracht Frankfurt and worked for this club with great passion every day,” said Krösche. “We greatly appreciate his technical expertise, his professionalism, his meticulous approach to his work, and his interpersonal skills with the team. Nevertheless, after intensive internal evaluation, we in the sporting management and collectively on the board have come to the conclusion that we need a new sporting impetus due to the downward trend in recent weeks. So far this season, we have not lived up to our claim to stand for dynamic, aggressive, and compact soccer as Eintracht Frankfurt.”
U-21 coach Dennis Schmitt und U-19 coach Alexander Meier will take over the squad on an interim basis.
BFW Commentary
The fault for Eintracht Frankfurt’s season lies with the club’s “selling mentality.” Able to identify and develop talent, Eintracht Frankfurt is often selling that talent rather than cultivating it to become a real, formidable team.
While Toppmöller did not do the best job with this group, it is a tough spot to lose your best and most valuable players every season and to be expected to keep a team consistent and competitive.
