The Wisconsin Badgers got another addition in the transfer portal on Thursday night, as Hope College pass rusher Liam Danitz committed to the program while on an official visit to Madison.
Danitz, a 6’5, 230-pound edge rusher who hails from Michigan, had a monster year for D-III Hope College this year, recording 15 sacks and 21 tackles for loss. In the two prior seasons, Danitz had recorded 12 sacks and 18.5 tackles for loss. While he is currently out of eligibility, Danitz is expected to apply for a waiver, as one of his four seasons went towards track-and-field.
This is a bold move from the Badgers, as they’re taking a chance on a D-III pass rusher with tantalizing traits. Danitz has elite speed, running a 10.55 100-meter dash and 20.92 200-meter dash in college. Now, it’s on Wisconsin’s staff to get the most out of that and find a way to get him on the field.
Danitz had been receiving some serious Power 4 interest after his track numbers were released, but he visited Wisconsin first and committed to the Badgers then and there.
Wisconsin has added a few different edge rushers this offseason. They added jumbo edge Justus Boone, an Arkansas transfer, who lines up at 6’5, 290 pounds and can play on the inside. They also got Tennessee freshman transfer Jayden Loftin, for whom the Badgers were a serious suitor last year in his high school recruitment.
Now, they’re adding a third with Danitz, getting some experience in a relatively young room.
