Rams Owner Stanley Kroenke becomes the largest landowner

It seems like the owner of the NFL team, the Los Angeles Rams, Stanley Kroenke is very serious about real estate. Kroenke is now America’s largest private landowner, according to the newly released Land Report.

Kroenke bought nearly 1 million acres of New Mexico ranchland in December from the family behind industrial conglomerate Teledyne, per The Land Report.

At 2.7 million acres, Kroenke’s holdings are larger than Yellowstone National Park — or the equivalent of roughly 2 million football fields.

As per the trade publication, the Singleton Ranches transaction is the largest land purchase in the U.S. in more than a decade.

Kroenke’s portfolio includes expansive ranches in Texas, Montana, Nevada, Wyoming, and New Mexico, and the recent acquisition of nearly 937,000 acres in New Mexico vaulted him to the top of the list of individual private landowners. This milestone was documented in The Land Report, which tracks and ranks America’s largest private landholders.

Kroenke’s landholdings are primarily ranchland, much of which is used for cattle operations, wildlife management, and conservation purposes. His approach combines traditional ranching with long-term investment in land as a valuable and appreciating asset. By surpassing other prominent landowners, such as the Emmerson family and John Malone, Kroenke now controls more private acreage than any other individual in the country.

The acquisition vaulted Kroenke from fourth to first on The Land Report’s annual ranking of the country’s 100 largest private landowners, leapfrogging the Emmerson lumber family as well as billionaire media moguls John Malone and Ted Turner.

His status as the largest private landowner underscores the growing trend of ultra-wealthy investors consolidating large parcels of land in the American West.

Kroenke’s portfolio also underscores broader trends in wealth concentration, where high-net-worth individuals consolidate large parcels of land, potentially affecting local communities, wildlife management, and agricultural practices.

At the same time, his dual focus on sports and real estate demonstrates the diversification strategies employed by modern billionaires, leveraging assets across multiple industries for long-term growth.
