The Atlanta Braves have had a busy offseason to this point, but were dealt tough news before the season has eveb started with the news that Ha-Seong Kim will miss 4-5 months with a hand injury. Injuries have plagued the Braves for the last two seasons, and GM Alex Anthopoulos has been adamant this offseason about adding another impact arm, which should be a starter. Atlanta has made ample additions to their bullpen, but it might not mean much if the rotation falters again. However, if the Braves can add one more durable starter to the current rotation, many fans and analysts would feel more comfortable with the roster heading into the upcoming season. As of now, the Braves have two strong frontline starters in Chris Sale and Spencer Schwellenbach. After Sale and Schwellenbach, Spencer Strider appears to be the third option, and Hurston Waldrep, Joey Wentz, and Grant Holmes follow behind Strider with hopes of having a 4th/5th option role. Here are three starting pitchers the Braves could target this offseason to cap a busy offseason: Lucas Giolito Among the top available starters in free agency, Lucas Giolito is probably the fourth or fifth name on the market, but he would be a really valuable addition to the Braves. After missing all of 2024, Giolito enjoyed a nice campaign in 2025 by being able to make 25+ starts. In 26 starts, Lucas Giolito posted an ERA of 3.41 over 145 innings and struck out 121 batters. His market value projects him to earn somewhere between a $45 million and $60 million contract over three-four years. As great as Sale and Schwellenbach have been when healthy, Bassitt would add another layer of depth and could firmly slot in ahead of Strider on Atlanta’s depth chart. Littell has made 61 starts over the last two seasons and posted a sub-4.00 ERA in both seasons. 2024 was really the first time Zack Littell transitioned into a full-time starter, and he’s proved his value, similar to the other two names on this list, by being able to take the ball every fifth day. According to Spotrac, Zack Littell is projected to earn a three-year, $38 million deal. That’s a price the Braves can more realistically afford, but it would be looked at as a good signing if Atlanta ultimately did strike a deal with Littell. Other external options the Braves might target during the last four weeks of this MLB offseason include Patrick Corbin, Justin Verlander, Chris Paddack, and Nick Martinez. WEDNESDAY St. John’s (S) at CATHOLIC MEMORIAL, 7 p.m. – A rematch of CM’s (10-1-1) only loss thus far – which St. John’s took by scoring twice in the third period for a 3-2 win. Both have looked worthy of a return trip to TD Garden thus far, though the Pioneers (8-3) have struggled with discipline in a couple of penalty-ridden losses. A top-5 matchup between two strong defensive juggernauts. Winner takes sole lead in the Catholic Conference title race. BURLINGTON at Woburn, 7 p.m. – Burlington’s realignment into Div. 2 adds a buzz to this Middlesex League crossover tilt. Chance for the Red Devils (9-1) to prove their strength as a top-5 team in Div. 2. Woburn (5-3) likely looking for a statement of its own as No. 11 in Friday’s MIAA Div. 2 power rankings. Biggest challenge for Burlington since a 3-1 loss to Arlington in its second game – which is its only loss yet. Bishop Stang at MIDDLEBORO/CARVER/WAREHAM, 8 p.m. – Entering Monday, Middleboro/Carver/Wareham (6-1) has just one loss, and it was a 4-3 finish against Bishop Stang (7-2-2). Both rank in the middle of the pack in Friday’s MIAA Div. 3 power rankings update, so it’s a chance for either of them to rise above the rest of that crowd a bit. Edge to the home team on a five-game win streak. THURSDAY King Philip at CANTON, 4 p.m. – A battle between top-10 teams in Div. 2, both with only one loss so far. The Warriors (9-1) face their biggest challenge yet in the Bulldogs (9-1), who will likely be on a mission for a big week after dropping an upset loss to Bishop Feehan on Saturday. SATURDAY St. Mary’s (L) at ARLINGTON CATHOLIC, 12:40 p.m. – With losses from St. John’s (S) and Waltham over the weekend, and a thrilling comeback win of its own over Framingham, Arlington Catholic (9-2) has the longest active win streak (eight games) in Div. 1 entering Monday. This is the end to a big week for St. Mary’s (6-4), which gets stalwarts Hingham on Monday and Tewksbury on Wednesday, in what’s been a gauntlet of a schedule so far. First meeting of the year between the Catholic Central League foes. Spartans already have a loss in the title race (Archies). Cougars are 2-0. MILTON at Framingham, 6 p.m. – A Bay State Conference crossover matchup to monitor. Milton (6-2-1) has shown flashes of what could be a deep run in Div. 2, most recently bouncing back from a loss to Needham with a tie against Div. 3 juggernaut Nauset. Associated Press BOGOTÁ (AP) — La guerrilla colombiana Ejército de Liberación Nacional (ELN) liberó el lunes a cinco policías que mantenía secuestrados desde el 6 de enero en el Catatumbo, en el noreste del país, según informó la Defensoría del Pueblo. La entidad estatal detalló que los policías fueron entregados a una comisión humanitaria que integraron junto a la iglesia Católica y la Misión de Verificación de las Naciones Unidas en Colombia. Junto al anuncio en la red social X, enseñaron una fotografía de los policías acompañando a miembros de la comisión y tres guerrilleros armados del ELN. “Un alivio esta liberación. Para ellos, para sus familias”, indicó en la misma red social la defensora del Pueblo, Iris Marín. Sin embargo, Marín abogó por la liberación de “decenas de personas que continúan secuestradas por el ELN, en Norte de Santander, en Arauca y en otras partes del país”. Los cinco policías fueron secuestrados cuando se movilizaban en un bus de servicio público vestidos de civil, dado que descansaban por las festividades navideñas, según relató la policía tras el secuestro.
