TJ Roberts, a Republican from Burlington and Kentucky state representative for House District 66, which encompasses much of Boone County, filed for reelection with the Kentucky Secretary of State’s office on Thursday. Roberts was first elected in 2024. “Since taking office, I’ve been driven by a simple mission: to protect our freedoms, defend our values and ensure that government works for the people of Boone County and all of Kentucky,” Roberts wrote in a press release announcing his candidacy. Although he was born in Edgewood, Roberts graduated from Conner High School and eventually earned a law degree from NKU’s Chase College of Law in 2023. A self-described constitutional conservative, Roberts has been a longtime critic of Gov. Andy Beshear’s COVID lockdown policies. He’s also pushed for the general reduction of taxes and government spending. This year, Roberts sponsored House Bill 2, which effectively eliminated sales and use tax on gold and silver. “As your representative, I have fought for lower taxes, school choice, more parental power, less government intrusion and more freedom for all Kentuckians,” Roberts continued in his release. “I worked to protect our religious liberties and our right to assemble, defended our Constitution and the liberties it enshrines, and I never backed down from the cause of liberty and putting America First.” Roberts has also filed a statement of spending intent with the Kentucky Registry of Election, but it did not have any contribution entries at the time of this brief’s publication.
