Davina McCall’s new husband Michael Douglas confirms their ‘private’ wedding

Douglas confirmed the news in an Instagram live video, where, while reading fans’ comments, he said, ‘All these congratulations coming, the newspapers decided to write a story today, to be clear, we didn’t tell the newspapers anything because that’s private. But thank you.’ He continued, saying: ‘We tried to keep it small and private, but thank you all for the congratulations.’ The television presenter, 58, exchanged vows with Douglas on Friday 5 December during an intimate service attended by close family and friends. According to reports, the couple followed this with a larger celebration the next day, but kept the core ceremony deliberately small and private. Those who attended the ceremony said it took place at a small venue close to the couple’s home, with around 10 guests present. Michael Douglas confirmed the news on Instagram live (Picture: Instagram) A source told The Sun: ‘Their wedding was perfect, exactly what they wanted. They chose a small venue close to their home, and just invited about 10 of their friends and relatives to be there with them. ‘It was very intimate and everyone who attended is very special in their lives. They’ve been through a huge amount in recent months, with Davina’s health, and it just felt right to formalise their marriage. They didn’t see the point in waiting.’ McCall and Douglas first met at Elstree Studios in Hertfordshire during her long-running tenure as host of Big Brother. The couple reportedly wed on December 5 (Picture: David Fisher/Shutterstock) The couple originally met on the set of Big Brother (Picture: Hogan Media/Shutterstock) Michael and Davina have been together since 2019. Michael was the star’s hairstylist for years before things got romantic, two years after her split from husband Matthew Robertson. In October, McCall revealed that Douglas had proposed during a romantic trip to Ibiza, recounting the moment with characteristic humour. She explained that he had planned a beach lunch followed by a walk along the cliffs — an adventure she initially greeted with some reluctance due to ill-suited footwear. Their marriage comes just months after McCall revealed she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. In November, she shared an emotional video with followers explaining that she had undergone surgery, admitting she initially felt ‘very angry’ when she received the diagnosis. The condition was discovered after she accepted a routine health check offered through her menopause advocacy work, an experience she later described as life-altering. McCall shares three children with her former husband: Holly, 23, Tilly, 21, and Chester, 18. The Ibiza location, she noted, was chosen because of its significance to all of them. Got a story? Israeli Eurovision star Noa Kirel says: ‘To boycott Israel is antisemitism’
An Israeli Eurovision act has slammed countries boycotting the contest (Picture: AP Photo/ Martin Meissner) Key Points summary__ai-icon Noa Kirel has criticised the Eurovision boycotts as antisemitic and said politics shouldn’t interfere in the contest Several countries like Ireland and Iceland have boycotted Eurovision 2026, citing Israel’s actions in Gaza as the reason The European Broadcasting Union reaffirmed Israel’s participation despite allegations of political misuse and voting interference Created with AI assistance. Quality assured by Metro editors. An Israeli singer who represented the country at Eurovision has slammed boycotts as ‘antisemitic’. Last week the European Broadcasting Union gave the green light for Israel to compete in the 2026 event, which came after significant pressure to remove the country due to the war in Gaza. However since then, five countries – Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands, Slovenia and Iceland – have announced they will boycott the competition. This week, last year’s winner Nemo also announced they would be handing back their trophy – stating that Eurovision was ‘repeatedly used to soften the image of a state accused of severe wrongdoing’. However, these actions have now been condemned by singer Noa Kirel – who represented Israel at Eurovision in 2023. During an interview on BBC’s This World Tonight this week, Kirel was asked about the countries who had decided to withdraw from the contest in protest. And unfortunately, some countries are letting politics ruin the celebration.’ She went on: ‘Israel did not violate any rules of Eurovision. Israel is a peace-seeking country. And on October 7, Israel did not attack anyone. ‘Israel was brutally attacked in a way unseen before. Entire families were murdered, including children. Civilians were kidnapped. Israel defended itself like any other nation would do. Those countries are choosing to see the opposite, to ignore the reality and to boycott Israel. That is antisemitism. So, I think boycotting Israel on political fronts – it’s not just an injury to us; it’s an injury to everything that Eurovision represents.’ After being read the statements from boycotting countries, including Ireland – whose broadcaster RTE said its participation ‘remains unconscionable given the appalling loss of lives in Gaza’ – Kirel doubled down. ‘As I said, you know, Eurovision is all about connecting people’s hearts through music. I don’t think politics has a place in this competition. About what they said – Israel defended itself like any other nation would do. Eurovision is all about connecting people, regardless of politics, religion or borders,’ she said. The singer wants people to ‘focus on the music’ (Picture: Ian West/ PA Wire) ‘That is what Eurovision is all about. So, I think we should put that on the side and focus on music.’ Russia was banned from Eurovision after its invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Israel has continued to compete in the past two years despite its most recent actions in Gaza. Part of the EBU’s voting process last week included addressing claims that Israel had interfered in the contest’s televoting system – which will now lead to a change in voting rules. ‘A large majority of members agreed that there was no need for a further vote on participation and that the Eurovision song contest 2026 should proceed as planned, with the additional safeguards in place,’ the EBU said in a statement. 6 fruits to eat for healthier and better skin, according to science
Bad skin is something we all experience. For some people it’s a persistent problem that doesn’t seem to have a magic answer. However, certain foods have been found to improve skin and make it healthier. So, which science-backed fruits could truly make a difference if you add them to your diet? (Picture: Getty Images) 1. Golden kiwi A new study has revealed that golden kiwis improved collagen production, skin thickness, and skin regeneration among 24 study participants who ate two golden kiwis per day for eight weeks. The researchers collected skin samples before and after the intervention and, thanks to the higher levels of vitamin C, they found that the skin of every participant improved. Vitamin C supports collagen synthesis which helps your skin maintain its elasticity, moisture, and volume. (Picture: Getty) 2. Watermelon Watermelons are high in lycopene, a pigment that gives the fruit its red colour. This pigment is a powerful antioxidant that may help prevent skin damage. In research looking at women ages 35 to 55, lycopene supplements that have been taken for at least three months led to significant improvement in the skin barrier’s ability to retain moisture. There was also a reduction in fine lines, wrinkles, and pores, as well as greater smoothness and firmness. (Picture: Getty) 3. Bananas Bananas are known for their vitamin B3 (also known as niacin) content. Some research suggests that vitamin B3 enhances DNA repair and regulates inflammation caused by UV radiation. Vitamin B3 is higher in animal-based foods like beef liver, chicken, and turkey. One medium banana provides 5% of your daily value of the vitamin. (Picture: Getty) 4. Strawberries Strawberries are up to 91% water and can help keep your skin hydrated and healthy. A small study in women found that those with low daily water consumption saw an improvement in skin appearance and were able to maintain skin hydration levels by increasing their water intake over 30 days. Boosting water consumption improves hydration in the outermost layer of skin, helping decrease dryness. (Picture: Getty) 5. Blueberries Blueberries have compounds called anthocyanins that give them their unique colour. Anthocyanins are known to be potent antioxidants, but more research is needed to see if the antioxidants may help prevent skin aging and damage from UV light. Other research shows that blueberries may help decrease inflammatory markers and boost skin hydration and barrier function. (Picture: Getty) 6. Avocados Avocados are botanically a fruit, and are known to be a rich source of monounsaturated fatty acids. Monounsaturated fatty acids are healthy fats linked to reduced oxidative stress and inflammation, which may protect skin from sun damage. In one study, women who ate an avocado daily for eight weeks saw a significant increase in skin elasticity and firmness compared with those who did not. It is also associated with lower risk of severe sun-related skin ageing. (Picture: Getty) Add Metro as a Preferred Source on Google Add as preferred source

Putin looks seriously miffed after he’s silenced for 34 seconds during speech
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Up Next Previous Page Next Page Vladimir Putin was silenced for 34 seconds as he started a major speech to world leaders in an apparent microphone blunder. The Russian dictator looked visibly annoyed as his microphone failed to work at the International Forum on Peace and Trust session in Turkmenistan’s capital, Ashgabat. Following applause, Putin, 73, tried several times to start his speech but realised no one could hear him. The despot looked around helplessly for assistance to end his microphone issue, before finally having the switch turned back on. A total of 16 heads of state and government – including leaders from NATO states – watched as Putin struggled in vain to be heard. Putin looked very displeased with the situation (Picture: AP) Finally, a flunky approached Putin and showed him how to flick a switch to turn on his microphone. ‘Thank you,’ he said curtly before starting his speech. The Kremlin ruler was mocked online for the blunder, with Azerbaijan outlet Minval observing: ‘Putin couldn’t work his microphone, he pressed the wrong button and spoke without sound for almost a minute.’ A Ukrainian outlet said: ‘He got what he deserved – Putin has no business addressing a peace forum after killing hundreds of thousands in the war.’ News outlet ChTD pointed out: ‘Nothing unusual, Putin in Ashgabat spoke for half a minute without sound until they turned on the microphone button for him. ‘The same Putin who regularly shows foreign leaders how to turn on headphones with simultaneous translation, which the Kremlin propaganda loves to talk about, comparing the advanced Kremlin host with his clueless guests.’ Among the guests Putin was addressing were NATO state leaders Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, president of Turkey, and Viktor Orbán, premier of Hungary. Putin is on a two-day visit to Turkmenistan, where he is scheduled to hold talks with the leaders of Iraq and Iran. The Russian ruler flew in his Aurus limousine to drive around the dusty streets of the Turkmen capital. Putin’s ‘peace summit’ comes amid sobering war warnings Britain is ‘on a war footing’ as a bloodbath is knocking on Europe’s door, the UK’s armed forces minister said yesterday. The Army minister, Al Carns, said the country is close to a conflict and that the ‘shadow of war was at Europe’s door.’ His warning comes after Nato’s general secretary, Mark Rutte, urged all member countries, including Britain, to boost their defence efforts to counter Vladimir Putin’s Russia. The Nato leader said the alliance is ‘Russia’s next target,’ but he fears ‘too many are quietly complacent.’ He used the opportunity to tell the 32 Nato member states to increase defence spending and weapons production to prevent a war on scale ‘our grandparents and great-grandparents endured.’ Speaking at the launch of a new Military Intelligence Services organisation, Carns said: ‘The shadow of war is knocking on Europe’s door and that war could be bigger and bloodier than what we have experienced in recent times.’ Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at webnews@metro.co.uk.
