Alabama OC praises Parker Brailsford’s ‘warrior’ effort through injury

Grubb tells what Alabama football’s offensive line has to prioritize vs. Oklahoma
Alabama football’s offensive line allowed the Oklahoma Sooners to sack Ty Simpson four times in November when Oklahoma defeated the Tide at home. One of those sacks resulted in Simpson fumbling the football in the third quarter. Oklahoma recovered the fumble and took the lead from the Crimson Tide with a field goal in the fourth quarter as a result. The Sooners held on to that lead to defeat Alabama. Simpson threw an interception in the first half after he was pressured by a free rusher. This turnover also resulted in Oklahoma points as Eli Bowen returned the interception for a touchdown. For things like this not to happen on Friday, Alabama’s offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb believes it starts with Alabama’s offensive line and their communication. “Elite communication, the best communication they’ve had all year, that’s what it’s gonna come down to because in the first game, they did a good job with that,” Grubb said. “We had two negative-yard runs, which were actually gains of zero. We talked about that before. The sacks came on lack of communication and one of them really was probably Ty could have got it out of his hand, but ultimately for us, it’s just gonna come down to those guys communicating and everybody being on the same call. If half the line’s on one call, the other half’s not, that’s where your problems happen. That’s where sacks and problems in the A and B gap happen.” Alabama’s starting left tackle, Kadyn Proctor feels communication is essentially what makes a great offensive line great. “That’s something that we’ve been honing in on,” Proctor said. “That’s really all offensive line is, is communication. Five as one, and we’ve really been focusing on that. So, we’ve been doing a really great job up to this point.” Alabama will look to protect Simpson better against Oklahoma on Friday.
