Firefighters rescue 2 in Central-Alameda box truck crash
Two people are hospitalized after a box truck crashed into a commercial building in the Central-Alameda neighborhood of South Los Angeles. Los Angeles Fire Department crews responded at 4:08 a.m. to 1774 E. 21st St. west of South Alameda Street where the victims were freed from the wreckage by firefighters, LAFD spokeswoman Margaret Stewart said. The victims- whose names, ages and genders were not immediately known – were taken to a hospital in unknown conditions. The Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety has been contacted to evaluate the structure of the building, Stewart said.

First flu death reported in LA County
Los Angeles County had its first reported influenza-associated death of the flu season, the LA County Department of Public healthy reported Wednesday. The deceased is an “older person” with underlying health conditions. LA public health officials believe this person had not received a flu vaccination for this flu season, which typically runs between October and May every year.
