In reply to pdixon1986. 30mph in built up areas is the law so we all should be driving slower through pedestrian-heavy areas, stopping and starting as required. However, with an autonomous car, it's not yours, so you have the choice to either stay for the ride, or walk. More freedom, safer and less pollution. Win, win.

Given that humans are behind the wheel, and that humans are involved in the accidents, there are very few other causes for the accidents... so yes, 94% seems like a normal number for "human error"... But i wonder... if a driverless car was going 40mph and a kid ran out into the road, would the car magically stop in time?...i would like to see a driverless car in a built up area with many kids and people -- i think…

1. I doubt that "Google is obviously a little bit envious of that" as their marketshare is, what, 4 times that of Apple, likely to remain that way. 2. I do think Schmidts use of an iPhone is noteworthy. I mean, who would've thought he had a sense of taste? 3. I'd like to know what it's in the boxes. I mean, they're cubical, and they're white. Could be from Apple, right¿
