‘Ponies’ Season 2 Theories & Predictions: Will The KGB Kill Bea And Twila?
Ponies Season 2 Theories Bea And Twila

At the time of writing this article, Peacock hasn’t confirmed or denied if Ponies will be getting a second season. That said, creators Susanna Fogel and David Iserson did leave a few plot threads open-ended. And all I can do is speculate how they can be fleshed out in a potential Season 2 of the show. If the viewership doesn’t exceed the streaming platform’s arbitrary standards, then Bea and Twila will be stuck in that burning CIA building with all those KGB agents, Cheryl’s backstory will remain a mystery, the reason behind Chris’ survival will be a big question mark, and we’ll never know if Sasha recovered from that brutal stabbing and learned about the fact that his sister, Galyna, was murdered by the CIA in order to make him spy on the KGB on their behalf. What will happen if the show does manage to meet Peacock’s arbitrary standards and does get greenlit for a second season? Let’s find out.

Spoiler Alert

Bea and Twila Will Become KGB Spies

Even though the battle between the CIA and the KGB was happening on the latter’s turf, with the KGB on the offense and the CIA on the defense, their power sets were more or less equal. But after the fire in the US Embassy, which doubled as the CIA’s headquarters in Moscow, the Americans have suffered a major blow. To make matters worse, during that fire, the KGB got a hold of Bea and Twila too. So far, the CIA was using these two ladies against the KGB because they were sure that they wouldn’t suspect them of being spies. Hence, it’s possible that in the time it takes for the CIA to regather their bearings, the KGB will turn Bea and Twila into double agents and send them back to the CIA under the presumption that they would not suspect the ladies of being double agents. Why would Bea and Twila agree to work for the KGB and against the CIA? Well, during the closing moments of the show, Andrei put this idea in the ladies’ heads that the CIA isn’t exactly an organization full of good guys, and they have a lot of skeletons in their closet, starting with the murder of Galyna. Bea and Twila aren’t the most patriotic people in existence. Therefore, it’s possible that Galyna’s death will convince them to work with the KGB and find out everything that the CIA has been doing in the name of national security. Of course, since it’s an American show, Bea and Twila will double cross the Russians and help the Americans gain the upper hand. However, during this process of flipping and unflipping the table, I think Bea and Twila’s eyes will be opened to the true hideousness of espionage.

Cheryl’s Backstory Will Be Explored

One of the biggest twists of Ponies Season 1 was the revelation that Cheryl was actually a KGB spy, and Season 2 will need to address loads of questions. How did she become a spy? How dedicated is she to this game of espionage that she decided to marry Ray and mother a child with him? How will Ray react to this revelation? When will Ray learn that Cheryl is a KGB spy? Is Cheryl going to kill Ray because she’s clearly still in love with her handler? If she’s KGB, why did she shoot Evie, who seemed to be working for KGB as well, and then went to the hospital to kill her via poisoning? What was Cheryl’s actual plan? Did she intend to destroy all those shampoo bottles, which had all the scandalous recordings that Andrei had collected over the course of several years, or did she just want to start a fire so that KGB could get into the CIA’s secret office and collect important material? To be honest, more than anything else, I want to know the answer to that last question, because Andrei is going to be livid that all that material that he could have used as leverage to make anyone, KGB or CIA, bend to his will is gone. Is that going to start some kind of a civil war with the KGB? Will Cheryl’s actions actually force Andrei to work with Bea, Twila, and the CIA? Because if Andrei doesn’t have any leverage, and everyone in the KGB knows that he was collecting info on them, won’t they try to kill him? And Bea and Twila can convince the CIA to protect Andrei if he is willing to give them some damning information about the KGB. If that happens, the KGB will probably end up killing Cheryl for doing more harm than good.

Chris’ return will be questioned

The second biggest twist of Ponies Season 1 was the fact that Chris was alive. The whole show was centered around Bea and Twila’s search for their respective husbands, Chris and Tom. Andrei put a big question mark on Vera’s claim that Tom was the mole, and then Chris showed up in a safe house to meet with Emile, Dane, and Manya. The narrative was that both Tom and Chris had been shot after a plane crash, which was something that was witnessed by Vera. So, Season 2 will need to answer who’s lying and who’s telling the truth. If Chris is alive, does that mean Tom is kicking too? Is Chris the mole, which is why he’s alive? Is Chris the one who killed Tom? Was Chris duped into thinking that Tom was the mole, which is why Chris killed him? Where was Chris all this while? Who was sheltering him, and why? What has he learned during the time that he was away? Will Chris embark on a mission to rescue Bea and Twila from the clutches of the KGB? Whatever the case may be, one thing is clear: if Chris is alive and Tom is dead, that’s going to create a divide between Bea and Twila. Their bond was getting stronger because of the common trauma of losing their respective husbands under mysterious circumstances. Chris’ return should be something worth celebrating, but it looks like it’s going to make things much more complex than they were before his and Tom’s disappearance. Furthermore, I don’t even know if Bea would like to welcome Chris back into her life because, firstly, she’s in love with Sasha; secondly, she’s seen Chris have sex with someone in the name of national security; and thirdly, she herself is in a weird relationship with Andrei. I have a feeling that Chris will regret coming back from the dead.

Sasha Will Go Against The CIA

Sasha’s fate was not revealed at all, and the golden rule of television is that until and unless you see the dead body of the character who has supposedly passed away, you shouldn’t believe that they have gone on to the afterlife. And I don’t think the creators will kill Sasha so soon, because we have just learned that he was manipulated by the CIA into working for them by framing his sister’s assassination as a KGB hit job. That changes everything, and in Season 2, we might just see him changing his allegiance and working for the KGB, because he’d love to take revenge against the CIA for Galyna’s sake. FYI, Galyna being killed by the CIA was an allegation leveled by Andrei, who is the master of lies. He probably wants Sasha to learn about that piece of information—through Bea, Twila, or some other means—so that Sasha quietly or loudly defects against the CIA. If he does it quietly, that’ll be better, because then the CIA won’t be able to find out that their asset has turned against them. If he does it loudly, Sasha will need to go full-on scorched earth mode. I have a feeling that it’ll be revealed in Season 2 that Sasha actually knew that Galyna had been killed by the CIA, and he has done what he has done to gain the trust of the Americans. I think he’s the one who killed Tom, as it’s heavily implied that Tom was the one who killed Galyna, and he’s playing the long game to see who else was behind the cover-up of that broad daylight murder. Who knows? Maybe Chris knows that it’s Sasha who tried to kill him and Tom, and now he’ll need to convince them that Sasha is the real enemy. That’ll be an uphill task because Sasha has proven his worth, while it’s unclear which side Chris is batting for. Anyway, those are just my expectations from a potential Season 2 of Ponies.
