YouTube legend MrBeast is known for his massive stunts and extreme generosity. However, his biggest challenge yet might be fatherhood. As he prepares for his upcoming wedding to fiancée Thea Booysen, fans are curious about his family plans. The social media mogul is surprisingly candid about his hesitation. He isn’t rushing into parenthood just because it is the “next step.” Instead, he is applying the same high standards to parenting as he does to his record-breaking videos.
MrBeast doesn’t plan to have kids unless he is a ‘phenomenal father’
MrBeast, aka James Stephen Donaldson, is prioritizing quality over timing. He sat down for a raw conversation on the Dear Media’s “Good Guys” podcast to discuss his future. The digital creator made his criteria very clear during the interview. “I don’t want to have a kid unless I’m a phenomenal father,” he stated firmly.
He believes that being a truly great parent requires a massive personal sacrifice: “Kids make you more successful — I hate when people say that kind of stuff, because, I agree, it’s a sacrifice when you’re actually a good father. What you guys are quantifying is that it’s a sacrifice, but it’s worth it.” However, he admitted that he isn’t sure if he is ready to make that trade-off right now. For MrBeast, being average at something isn’t an option.
The YouTuber also pushed back against common social pressures. He disagreed with the idea that children automatically make a person more successful. To him, a successful career and successful parenting are two different worlds. He noted that many high achievers have to sacrifice their professional growth to be present for their kids. MrBeast noted, “Very few people that I meet that are successful and have kids end up regretting it. They’re almost always like, ‘Yeah, I’m less successful, but I don’t care.'”
Despite these hesitations, his relationship with Thea Booysen is stronger than ever. The couple got engaged on Christmas Day in 2024. Booysen has shared that they already feel like a “married” unit. Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE, she said that marriage “was just another step in the process.” They have even discussed what their lives will look like when they are 70 years old.
While the wedding is a “formality,” the decision to have children remains a heavy one. MrBeast is focused on his legacy, both online and at home. He won’t become a dad until he can give it 100 percent.
