The Chicago Bears shocked the Green Bay Packers in their wild-card matchup on Saturday night, as they rattled off 25 fourth-quarter points to pull out a 31-27 victory. Once again, second-year quarterback Caleb Williams stepped up when his team needed him the most, but after the game, he opted to deflect the praise sent his way to first-year head coach Ben Johnson.
In their first season together, Williams and Johnson have teamed up to completely change the fortunes of the Bears franchise. With this big win in the books, Williams made sure to give praise to Johnson, issuing an emotional message to his team in the locker room that quickly caught the attention of fans.

Williams’ rookie season in the NFL with Chicago was marred by his lackluster coaching staff. Former head coach Matt Eberflus completely wilted in 2024, and he ended up getting fired midway through the season. It certainly wasn’t an ideal setup for Williams, and the goal over the offseason was to bring in a head coach who could provide him with stability.
Enter Johnson, who turned himself into one of the top head coach candidates in the league during his time with the Detroit Lions as their offensive coordinator. In just one season, Johnson has completely transformed the Bears, turning them into a team that simply refuses to die. Of course, that starts with the play of their quarterback under center.
Chicago looked like it was on its last leg for pretty much this entire game, but Williams delivered big play after big play to lead them to victory. While he deserves his fair share of praise, Williams also made sure to shout out Johnson for helping him take his game to another level during their first season together.
“Look at this guy right here. Everything he’s done for us as a coach … it started with him, bringing in everybody and all of that,” Williams said of Johnson. “For me personally, I’m getting a little emotional — he’s been monumental in my life so far.”

With a proper supporting cast, Williams has flourished in his second season, and things are trending in the right direction for Chicago. No matter what the score may be, the Bears have proven time and again this year that they cannot be counted out until the clock hits zero, which is a trait that should serve them well for however long they are in the playoffs.
Chicago will now get to kick back and relax on Sunday while waiting to see who its next opponent will be. If the Philadelphia Eagles win, they square off against the Bears next, but if the San Francisco 49ers win, that means the Bears would play the Los Angeles Rams instead. Regardless of who Chicago has to play, though, it will surely be feeling confident in its chances after its latest mind-boggling comeback victory.
