Several cars broken into along same block in Newtown Square, police say

Police are warning residents to lock their doors and make sure their home security systems are activated after several cars along one street in Delaware County were broken into early Friday morning.

The break ins all happened around 3 a.m. on Jan. 9 along the 3500 block of Tyson Road in Newtown Square, according to Newtown Township Police Captain John Newell.

All of the cars that were targeted were left unlocked so the suspect was able to get away with some cash, sunglasses and other small items, Captain Newell explained.

The suspect was caught on home surveillance cameras running through backyards, police said.

The suspect is described as tall and thin and was last seen wearing all dark clothing, officials said.

Newell told NBC10 that these types of crimes happen every two to three months and is urging everyone to make sure they lock their doors.
