The owner of an Olathe massage parlor has been charged with rape after a customer alleged he touched her inappropriately.
On Monday in Johnson County District County, Somkiat Taweeruksakul, the owner of Thai Massage KC, made an appearance with his attorney James Spies, to face a felony charge of rape. He was originally charged on Oct. 15.
Judge Michael P. Joyce is the presiding judge.
Customer alleges Taweeruksakul assaulted her
On Oct. 15, an Olathe police officer was dispatched to Thai Massage KC to investigate an alleged rape.
A customer reported that, during a massage from Taweeruksakul earlier that day, he had touched her inappropriately multiple times. She told the officer that she had previously received a massage from him and “had a good experience.”
During the massage, the victim said when Taweeruksakul touched her inappropriately the first time, “she did not know what happened.” When he did it again, she told him no and tried to close off her body, but he continued to touch her, according to court records. She also alleged that he grabbed her breast.
During this time, the victim said she froze, tried to keep closing her body off and attempted to sit up, but Taweeruksakul kept her in place.
After the massage, the victim went to a local medical center for a Sexual Assault Forensic Examination (SAFE) Program exam, which detected male DNA on a swab of part of her body.
Following the call, a Olathe police detective spoke with Taweeruksakul. Court records redacted what was said in the conversation.
Taweeruksakul’s business is suspended
Because of the allegations, Taweeruksakul was accused of violating city codes including Section 5.36, which prohibits any contact by licensee, operator, massage therapist, or employee to a patron’s pubic region, genitals, perineum, anal region, and/or female breasts.
On Oct. 15, both Taweeruksakul’s license and Thai Massage KC’s licenses were revoked by the City of Olathe, an Olathe city spokesperson said in an email to the Johnson County Post. Taweeruksakul also refunded the victim $140 for the massage, according to court documents.
What’s next
Taweeruksakul is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in court at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 30.
He is currently out on $100,000 bond, which includes conditions such as no contact with the victim or witnesses, GPS monitoring, no alcohol or illegal drug consumption and not violating any federal, state or municipal laws.
