Overland Park sewing supply shop moving to Olathe

At Quilters Bliss, there’s more than meets the eye.

When customers initially pull up to the unassuming Overland Park office building (primarily occupied by Performance Rehab KCOI) in which the shop has a suite, there’s not much to see. But head inside and up a flight of stairs, and suddenly there’s color — fabric in just about every color and pattern.

Soon enough, there will no longer be a flight of stairs between all of those colorful fabrics and the shop’s customers. Its new front door will be just a few steps from the parking lot.

If all goes according to plan, Quilters Bliss will have traded its office suite for a new shopping center space in Olathe by early March.

Quilters Bliss is coming to 2109 E. 151st St.

  • The shop is taking over a space just off 151st Street and Mur-Len Road, near Austins Bar & Grill and Emiliano’s Mexican Cuisine.
  • Long Life Foot Massage previously occupied that space.
  • In its new Olathe space, Quilters Bliss will likely be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Customers at Quilters Bliss can find fabrics in a wide variety of colors and patterns.

In addition to fabrics, Quilters Bliss also carries quilting kits with other supplies included.

Since the Olathe shop will be larger than the shop’s current Overland Park space, owner Jenni Daniel said she plans to expand the inventory slightly with a few more sewing supplies — though Quilters Bliss will mostly stay true to the fabrics they’re known for, she said.

Outside of supplies, Quilters Bliss also has classes, which Daniel said she hopes to offer more frequently in the new Olathe location.

“People like to get together and sew together, and they like to learn new things,” she said. “I want people to come in and say that (the shop) is a friendly, happy place to be in. And so far, that’s kind of been the feedback I’ve gotten, which I really like.”

Quilting initially began as a hobby for Daniel, who picked up “the quilting bug” after her mother-in-law introduced her to the skill nearly 30 years ago.

“I would go over to her house after I put the kids to bed, and we would sew together,” she said. “I made some quilts and some baby items and things like that, and then I started really loving fabrics.”

An accountant by trade, quilting primarily remained a hobby for Daniel until it began to blossom into a full-fledged career. Her first quilting-related business retail venture was an online fabrics store in 2003.

Then in 2024, she launched Quilters Bliss out of a small storage unit. That lasted for a few months, before she moved into a by-appointment storefront at 6885 W. 151st St. in Overland Park.

In addition to its shop, Quilters Bliss also worked up a following through pop-ups and by traveling to quilting shows across the country.

As the shop prepares to move into its biggest space yet, she said, it’s exciting to see how her venture has progressed.

“When I look around, I can’t believe that I started out in a storage unit,” she said. “All that we’ve done in really a year and a half is pretty exciting.”
