The Enforcement Directorate on Monday conducted raids at premises linked to climate advocacy group Satat Sampada Private Limited in connection with alleged violations of the Foreign Exchange Management Act, The Indian Express reported.
The agency said the organisation was suspected of receiving foreign funds to “run narratives to influence government policies in the energy sector”.
Satat Sampada Private Limited also runs the non governmental organisation Satat Sampada Climate Foundation. It was co-founded by climate activist Harjeet Singh and his wife Jyoti Awasthi.
The searches were carried out at an office, a business outlet and residences connected to the company in Delhi and Ghaziabad, including Singh’s residence, an unidentified agency official told the newspaper.
The Enforcement Directorate is probing foreign funds amounting to more than Rs 6 crore received by the company between 2021 and 2025, Hindustan Times reported.
“These remittances were received in the guise of consultancy charges,” an unidentified official told the newspaper. “However, cross verification of the filings made by the remitters abroad has shown that these transfers were actually being made to run narratives in India to further the cause of Fossil Fuel-Non Proliferation Treaty, which may seriously impact the energy security of India.”
