Head football coach Nick Tisa and Clayton Valley Charter have mutually parted ways, Tisa told the Bay Area News Group on Tuesday.
The news comes shortly after two other recent East Bay coaching departures.
Liberty’s Mike Cable has stepped down, according to the Brentwood Press, and Las Lomas’ Doug Longero confirmed to the Bay Area News Group on Tuesday that he has also resigned.
Tisa led Clayton Valley to a section final last month.
He had taken over the Concord program in 2023 after serving for five years on the staff of longtime coach Tim Murphy, whom the Ugly Eagles’ field is named after.
Murphy had a highly successful run at Clayton Valley, coaching the Ugly Eagles from 2012-2022 and winning a state championship and multiple NorCal regional titles.
Tisa’s teams went 18-17 at Clayton Valley.
The Ugly Eagles finished second in the Diablo Athletic League’s Foothill Division this season with a 3-1 record. They lost to Monte Vista in the North Coast Section Division II championship game to finish 7-6.
Tisa’s departure adds another job opening to a growing list of high-profile programs looking for a new coach.
Longero said he stepped down, in part, to spend more time with his family.
“Been coaching for 30 years,” Longero told this news organization. “I have two young kids. I’ll coach again at some point. Been awesome at Las Lomas.”
Valley Christian, Bellarmine and Sacred Heart Cathedral of the West Catholic Athletic League are also seeking new leaders, as is Amador Valley of the East Bay Athletic League.
On the Peninsula, Palo Alto of the Peninsula Athletic League’s Bay Division has an opening for a new coach.
Tisa said he is seeking another head coaching role before next fall. He plans to remain at Clayton Valley, where he is a history teacher, through the end of the school year.
