A European Cafe Is Taking Over the JavaVino Space In Poncey-Highland

A European cafe named At Arbeta has purchased the JavaVino space in Poncey-Highland after the longtime cafe and wine bar announced its closure after 22 years in business last week. Renovations are currently underway to create an all-day modern Scandinavian space for work-from-home residents. It is expected to open next year.

“Heddy and I believe we’re leaving our patrons in great hands with the At Arbeta team,” said JavaVino co-owner Steve Franklin in a statement. “As we enter our next chapter, we’re excited to focus more on growing the JavaVino Coffee brand in Atlanta and strengthening our supply chain by importing coffee directly from a wider network of farmers — alongside our own family farm, Selva Negra.”

JavaVino was a community hub in Poncey-Highland, and the new owners hope to create a work-friendly atmosphere. Alongside breakfast, lunch, and aperitivo hour, At Arbeta (which means working to achieve something in Swedish) boasts workspaces, ample charging ports, and quiet areas for video meetings. At Arbeta operating partner Rebecca Floyd says the cafe plans to continue serving sustainably sourced and locally roasted coffee, following in JavaVino’s legacy. “We are so excited to be a part of this great community.”

JavaVino, which is transitioning to a coffee wholesale business, closed on December 14, following a slew of closings in Atlanta this month.
