Cooperative Power: Assam Leads India's Self-Reliance Journey

Union Minister Krishan Pal Gurjar emphasized the significance of the cooperative movement in fostering self-reliance in India, with Assam playing a crucial role. He made these remarks at the launch of the 4th Cooperative Mela 2025, organized by Assam's Cooperation department under the Ministry of Cooperation.

Gurjar, the Union Minister of State for Cooperation, acknowledged Assam's deep cultural roots in cooperation, citing the teachings of saints Srimanta Shankaradev and Madhavdev on unity and service. Under the leadership of the Prime Minister, the 'Sahkar Se Samriddhi' vision is becoming a reality, aided by the establishment of the Ministry of Cooperation in 2021, which provides institutional backing for a robust cooperative system.

Assam's proactive reforms have positioned it as a national leader, notably with the computerization of Primary Agricultural Credit Societies. These developments empower youth and women, promote entrepreneurship, and enhance financial inclusion. State Minister Jogen Mohan also praised the grassroots empowerment showcased at the Mela, with cooperatives spanning various sectors such as handloom, fishery, and agriculture.
