News anchors used to be respected and revered by the general public. But the rise of the internet emboldened social media trolls. A Fox News anchor was cruelly bullied by viewers. But rather than take the abuse, they turned it around on the bullies, exposing them live on the air. Keep reading to see the shocking interaction.
Fox News Anchor Bullied
Television viewers have all kinds of opinions about news anchors. And they’re no longer afraid to share those opinions. The anchors, usually women, often face hurtful comments about their attire, their weight, their voice, or anything else worth picking apart. A Fox News affiliate anchor was relentlessly bullied by viewers over her weight.

Carissa Codel is the morning anchor for Fox 49 in Springfield, Missouri. She anchors Ozark’s First morning news program. The news anchor constantly receives negative comments from viewers about her appearance. For example, one viewer left the comment on social media, “You look like you could survive a harsh winter.”
Another viewer got inappropriately flirty with the comment, “Dayuum Gurl, I want you to put a hurting on me like you do those midnight snacks.”

Rather than let the snide comments get to her her, the Fox News anchor has a unique and hilarious way of dealing with them. She reads the comments aloud in social media videos using her news anchor voice.

The videos caught the attention of Inside Edition. The outlet caught up with the bullied anchor for more details on the situation. “It doesn’t affect me at all. I think that they’re hilarious,” she said about the comments.
Carissa Codel added, “I don’t put up the extremely mean ones, but I like the insults that are very creative.” She revealed that she’s lost over 50 pounds in the last few years.

Fans Have Her Back
Carissa Codel gets a lot of negative feedback. However, not all social media users bully the Fox News anchor. After the news spread about the hateful comments she receives, fans rallied on Carissa Codel’s behalf. Check out some of the comments about her getting bullied:
- “How lame is your life that you take the time to insult a news anchor?”
- “Some people are jerks. She’s very lovely.”
- “Shes intelligent, and very well spoken. Leave her alone.”
- “Why people think the internet is a platform to be hate and rude is beyond me..shame on them.”
- “She is a good sport! She has a great sense of humor. I learned many decades ago that we can go through life laughing or crying. I’d rather be laughing.”

Bullying is, unfortunately, all too common on social media. Humor is one way to deal with it. Another way is to speak up when you see it and call it out.
