Today’s entry in our 2025 reflections and 2026 predictions series comes from Cameron Javdani, vice president of market development, security solutions, at AtlasIED. He looks back on some of the key developments in the security industry in 2025 and what 2026 could hold for the sector.
Security Sales & Integration: What kind of year has 2025 been for the electronic security and physical security industries?
Cameron Javdani: 2025 was the year of having to solve things on the fly. With so much uncertainty on economic direction and rapidly changing government policy, the industry had to adjust and re-strategize fast.
SSI: What has been the most surprising development in the security industry this year?
Javdani: The rate of adoption of audio with video systems. The past few years saw an increase in the overall use of audio and, in 2025, it exploded. Look at how many audio displays there were at ISC West compared to just a year or two ago.
SSI: What has been the most important change we’ve seen this year in security?
Javdani: The implementation of AI tools and predictive analytics. Security isn’t just passive monitoring and incident review now. Technology can now automate end user operations which will improve both security and day to day tasks.
SSI: What’s the single most pressing challenge that professionals in the security industry must tackle right now? And how would you suggest tackling it?
Javdani: I’m terrible at making predictions, but I’ll say the most pressing issue that security needs to solve is how we’re representing artificial intelligence technologies. AI is a term that means something different to everyone who uses it so naturally expectations of AI vary wildly.
The organizations that differentiate AI from analytics and focus on what an AI tool will enable their customers to do will be the ones who beat out competitors who simply market a product as having AI features.
