There are new developments in the killing of Marissa Dinapoli of Morgan Hill, the teen who was found dead at Anderson Lake Park earlier this year.
Her ex-boyfriend, Martin Mendoza Jr., 20, returned to court on Tuesday to face charges of first-degree murder.
Dinapoli’s family and friends filled the courtroom during the hearing. Mendoza’s defense team asked for a continuance, telling the judge they need more time to investigate.
Prosecutors said there’s a significant amount of evidence to review, but added they remain confident in their case.
Prosecutors previously pointed to surveillance video showing Dinapoli and Mendoza together the night before her disappearance.
Cellphone data appears to place both of their phones near Anderson Lake. Court documents said Dinapoli was stabbed five times in the back.
The next hearing is scheduled for February.
