Republican Dan Cox once again ran against incumbent Democrat Wes Moore in a rematch of the 2022 Maryland gubernatorial race. Polls closed at 8 p.m.
This time, Gov. Moore had a record to defend from his first term. Almost immediately after polls closed at 8 p.m. Tuesday, NBC News projected the governor to win a second term.
The economy and affordability are key issues for voters in Maryland and across the country.
Cox pointed his finger at Moore for the state’s $3 billion budget deficit.
Moore raised Cox’s loyalty to President Donald Trump, whom the governor blames for decisions that hit Maryland particularly hard, noting the loss of tens of thousands of federal jobs since the beginning of Trump’s second administration and the state’s effort to locate a new FBI headquarters in Prince George’s County.
Meanwhile, Cox suggested Moore is campaigning for Trump’s job, saying the governor has spent too much time outside the state pursuing national interests.
Moore and Cox pitched their cases at a debate at Maryland Public Television in Owings Mills last month.
