Suburban man charged after allegedly impersonating DEA agent during traffic stop

A suburban man was arrested after he allegedly lied to police during a traffic stop by claiming he was an officer with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, authorities said on Thursday.

Edward R. Kajmowicz, a 46-year-old from Burr Ridge, was arrested on Monday by Frankfort police and charged with impersonating a public officer and unlawful possession of weapons, police said.

The arrest came after he was stopped for a traffic violation near La Grange Road and Lincoln-way Lane in Frankfort and subsequently identified himself as a DEA agent and provided credentials that later proved to be fraudulent, police said.

With the help of the DEA, Frankfort police determined that Kajmowicz is not and has never been employed with the agency.

The unlawful possession of weapons charge stems from Kajmowicz being allegedly in possession of a semi-automatic firearm when he was arrested, despite his Illinois Firearm Owner’s Identification Card being previously revoked, police said.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 9.
