Oakland's 911 system goes down, calls routed to Alameda County

All 911 calls in Oakland are being transferred to the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office.

Oakland Police Department (OPD) dispatchers noticed that their computer systems started freezing around 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Dispatchers tried both emergency and non-emergency lines and discovered there was no service to phone lines and internet.

OPD dispatchers were moved to the Oakland Fire and Alameda County Sheriff’s dispatch center.

Oakland police said they are only responding to priority one calls as the IT department looks to restore services with AT&T.
