The Cleveland Browns are in first place in the AFC North Division!
That is not a typo or a hallucination, so let’s take a moment to let that sink in.
This is the first time the Browns have been in first place this late in the season, and the fact that it is only Week 6 makes it even crazier, since Week 10 of the 2014 season.
Cleveland finds itself atop the division after Sunday’s 13-10 victory over the Baltimore Ravens that followed a script that has become familiar in all four of their wins:
- The defense looks completely out of sorts on the first drive of the game. In this case, it was an 11-play, 66-yard touchdown drive by Baltimore.
- From there, the defense goes into lockdown mode. Today, it allowed just three points, a fumble recovery, and 169 yards of total offense after the first drive.
- The offense takes it to the extreme by bumbling around for the first three quarters. Against the Ravens, that meant three points and 107 yards of offense heading into the fourth quarter.
- Somehow, the offense does just enough in the fourth quarter to pull out the win. Today, that was a two-yard touchdown run from Audric Estime, and Deshaun Watson driving the Browns 62 yards to set up Andre Szymt for a game-winning 37-yard field goal.
It is doubtful that the coaches and the players know how they are pulling this off, but they have done it enough to sit atop the division.
It’s a victory Monday, so let’s get rolling with the latest edition of the Daily Dawg Chow.
