SFPD cancels remembrance event for retired Deputy Chief Ann Mannix

The San Francisco Police Department canceled a remembrance event honoring retired Deputy Chief Ann Mannix that was scheduled for Thursday.

“We are deeply grateful for everyone’s outpouring of support during this difficult time,” the department said in a statement Wednesday night.

Mannix, 65, her husband, retired Officer Kevin Mannix, 68, and their daughter, Katherine Elizabeth Mannix, 24, were found dead at their home in unincorporated Marin County on Sunday.

Authorities are investigating the deaths as a suspected double-murder suicide. Kevin Mannix fatally shot his wife and daughter before shooting himself, according to the preliminary investigation by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.

Ann Mannix served with the San Francisco Police Department for more than 30 years. She worked at several district stations and in the department’s Special Operations and Field Operations bureaus. She was the first woman to lead the department’s tactical company, Police Chief Derrick Lew said.

Lew previously expressed condolences to the Mannix family, friends and colleagues, saying the department was grieving and trying to process the tragedy.

Mayor Daniel Lurie also praised Mannix’s decades of service to San Francisco, calling her a trailblazer who became the first woman to join and lead the department’s SWAT team.
