A multi-vehicle crash on westbound I-80 was snarling traffic in Joliet during the Thursday morning commute, with part of the interstate closed as police investigate.
NBC 5 traffic reporter Kye Martin described the incident as a “major traffic alert” for Will County commuters.
According to Illinois State Police, the crash occurred about 5:46 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-80 at I-55, with multiple passenger vehicles and a semi-trailer involved.
One person was transported to a hospital with injuries, ISP said.
Martin said some lanes on the westbound side of I-80 were blocked between I-55 to Ridge Road as part of the investigation, with heavy backups and delays expected.
Martin advised drivers to use US 52 and US 6 as alternate routes.
