Police are investigating a grisly discovery in Brooklyn’s Flatbush neighborhood, authorities said Friday.
Police say a call about a man found dead in front of an apartment building on East 21st Street came in around 9:15 a.m.
Law enforcement sources with knowledge of the investigation say a head and a torso were found in a bag, near the garbage area of the building.
One woman believed the remains were those of her neighbor, a man who she and others claimed lived on the sixth floor with his partner. The woman told NBC New York she witnessed the neighbor being physically abused by the other man multiple times.
“The tall one was abusing the petite, little one,” the woman said.
Another resident described hearing the couple before, saying “they were punching in my wall and…by the elevator.”
The NYPD had not confirmed whether the victim lived with his partner in the building, nor if the gruesome find was related to domestic violence.
An investigation is active and ongoing. The medical examiner was working to determine a cause of death. No arrests had yet been made as of Friday night, and police said they had no one in custody nor any person of interest.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
