I don't believe it's a death sentence. Losing him for nothing would have been worse than overpaying him. I think Duren has shown that he can be an extremely effective 2-way 5 with All-Star ability. He has some flaws in his game that if he doesn't fix, make him closer a $15M/yr player than $40. But if he works hard to fix them, improves his rebounding, shot altering and scoring in the playoffs, he'll be an indispensable part of a contender's core. But those are big ifs. For comparison, KAT didn't look like a championship caliber 5 until he was, and he did it against the best young center in the league
