Speeding drivers in Long Beach may soon be getting an unpleasant surprise in the mail.
Over a dozen speed cameras have been installed in the area, in an effort to make the roads safer.
City officials say speeding remains a leading factor in fatal crashes. The city of Long Beach has been facing record traffic deaths in 2025.
Wednesday marks the start of a 60-day warning period. But starting Dec. 8, drivers who are speeding could be facing a fine ranging from 50-500 dollars depending on how much a person is speeding.
The cameras have been installed in places like school zones and areas where crashes are common.
This is part of a five year pilot program that will cover six California cities.
The speed camera devices are triggered if a car is traveling 11 miles per hour or more above the speed limit.
According to the city of Long Beach, the cameras will capture a single image of the car and license plate.
Within 15 days, that violation notice should show up in the person’s mailbox.
